Nigit’stil Norbert is a photo-based artist in Toronto, ON. She has exhibited in Canada and the U.S.A. She is currently finishing her BFA in Photography at the Ontario College of Art & Design University, Toronto. She is of Gwich’in First Nations, Irish and Russian ancestry and she pulls from this diverse multicultural background when being inspired and creating works of art. The subject of Norbert’s work is her investigation into the historical and contemporary representation of Aboriginal people’s in Canada. Among her research she has begun to delve into ideas of misrepresentation, the role of the museum in the Aboriginal art scene, and stereotypes. In her art she likes to speak simply but with honesty and without fear.
